Schedule for 4G Academy
4G Academy step 1 (1 day) - Information about the 4G technologies and business case

You will learn which technology is more efficient for building and operating a local network. Currently, there are a number of different standards available. In this course we will discuss the following technologies:

  • Bluetooth
  • W-LAN (2.4 GHz)
  • 802.11a  (5 GHz)
What are the pros and cons of these technologies? What technical limits do they have? Available terminals which support different technologies today. What other interesting products can you use to provide complete solutions for your customers? For which applications are each of these technologies suitable? What different access points are available on the market?

How can you penetrate through walls and connect different floors when using these technologies?

Who Should Attend

The course is valuable for everyone interested in gaining basic knowledge in the above technologies, even for those who plan in the near future to build local networks based on Bluetooth, W-LAN or HiperLAN.

Business Cases, Real Life Scenarios

On the second day we will discuss a number of business cases. How to make profits by using 4G applications? How to market 4G applications?

Some business cases are discussed during the this day. We will focus on:

  • Customer value
  • Business model.
  • How to convince customers to invest on this 4G applications.

IP Telephony using Bluetooth

How to implement IP telephony in a local network using Bluetooth wireless technology? How much profit can a large company make by using this networking solution? What other network applications can be used in your enterprise?

Shopping Centres

How can 4G technology be used at shopping centres? Scenarios (business cases) in which businesses double their turnover by wirelessly sending propositions (offers) to customers via their PDAs, laptops, or Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones. How can this be technically achieved without overwhelming customers with advertising? How can a shopping center be made more entertaining by using 4G (e.g. offering entertainment from the local network to visitors' PDAs).

Sports Arenas

What kind of services are visitors most interested in? Can Bluetooth and W-LAN provide complete coverage of an entire sports arena?

Alarm and Surveillance Applications

How to use 4G technology for alarms and surveillance. How to effectively monitor homes for elderly and for sick people.

Industrial Applications

How to implement 4G in industrial environments.

Other Cases

Other interesting cases where 4G appears to be innovative and of benefit for customers.

4G Academy step II- Extensive Technical Course (2days)

On these two days we study technique in depth. You will learn the following:

Design, Configuration and Implementation of LANs suited to your enterprise.

Identified problems when implementing WLAN and Bluetooth.

* Roaming between different standards. How can you be constantly connected when moving between different networks without interrupting the phone call?
* BT+802.11b. How to implement both techniques without interference.
* Frequency planning. How to design a local network for a office, shopping centre or a sports arena.
* About antennas. How to use antennas to extend the range of access points up to 2 km. How to avoid interference when using more then one antenna.
* Security. How to achieve the highest level of security when designing local networks? How to build a complete infrastructure of a security system for a local network.

This day is reserved for lab sessions. Participants are given an opportunity to practice the knowledge acquired throughout the course, to get familiar with the tools and the working methods. This lab session gives participants a solid foundation in network design suited to their enterprise. This practical experience provides training in dealing with the following points:
* How to connect a PDA to the Internet via an Access Point?
* How to use a code mark reader in a local network?
* How is transmission rate affected when the network is overloaded?
